The National President's Christmas Message

As we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I wish to thank everyone who contributed towards the huge success UPNMG has achieved in this year. We deserve to rejoice and congratulate ourselves because we have not just achieved a labour union status, but we have done so in record time.

The dedication and passion we put into this fight for independence has never been witnessed in the history of unionism in the country and the gallant soldiers who fought in this battle will forever remain in the history of trade unions and that of UPNMG. To those who made the labour department their homes and those who contributed their money and resources, I say God bless you.

It is time to bring smiles unto the faces of Nurses and Midwives in the country. The choking deductions on our salaries are going to be reduced (no more building levy, 1.5% of basic salary not 2.0% for dues), we are going to have our own mutual fund not pension fund that will give out loans at very low interest rates to members in times of need (no more loans at high interest rates from financial institutions), the building you have always dreamt of is going to become a reality thanks to the affordable housing for Nurses and Midwives scheme. The scholarship scheme, land procurement, special insurance policy, the hire purchase scheme for electronics and vehicles etc. are all coming to better the lives of Nurses and Midwives in the country.

The unemployed Nurses and Midwives are not left out. You are going to get a voice that is going to speak on your behalf at the highest level of Government. The 'export' of Nurses and Midwives is going to become a reality. And our policy on building clinics and hospitals instead of Hostels is going to help employ and pay our own from our own resources.

It is time to build together, Let us all come onboard, join hands and change our lives. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy prosperous 2019 and beyond.
